   Abraham3 MERRILL (John2) was born 21 Dec. 1670, in Hartford, Conn., and died 6 Nov. 1747. He lived in Hartford and West Hartford, and was a deacon (See next page) of the West Hartford church. He married, 16 Apr. 1699, Prudence Kellogg, daughter of Lieut. Joseph and Abigail (Terry) Kellogg (See 52, p 229) of Hadley, Mass. She was born 14 Oct. 1675, and died 21 Sept. 1747. Children, baptised in Hartford:

  
i.   Prudence4, b. 22 Dec. 1700; d. 1 Feb. 1793, from
       falling into the fire; m. (1) 30 June, 1720,
   Ebenezer Sedgwick, son of Capt. Samuel and
   Mary (Hopkins) Sedgwick; he was b. 25 Feb.
   1695, and d. 2 Dec. 1759; she m. (2) 28 July,
   1767, Col. David Whitney of Canaan, Conn,;
   lived in Hartford. Children:
      Abraham, b. 27 Apr. 1721; lived West Hartford and
         Wintonbury, Conn.; m. Abi                     (Sedgwick)
         Brace, dau. Of Henry Brace of Hartford
      Abigail, b. 2 Dec. 1722; m. Elisha Seymour
         of Hartford, son of John Seymour.
      Prudence, b. 14 Sept. 1724; m. Amos Kellogg.
      Mary, b. 29 Apr. 1726; m. 1746, John Ensign
         Jr., of Salisbury, Conn.
      Thankful, b. 7 Apr. 1728; d. young.
      Elizabeth, b. 17 June, 1731; m. Elisha Ensign
         of Hartford.
      Ebenezer, b. 14 Mar. 1734/5.

  iii. Abigail4, b. 16 Jan. 1704/5; m. 18 Jan. 1734/5,
       in West Hartford, John Smith, weaver, of

  v. Margaret4, b. 6 June, 1709; m. 24 Jan. 1734,
       Samuel Nash, son of Lieut. John and Elizabeth
   (Kellogg) Nash of Hadley, Mass.;         (See 52, p 229)
   lived in Farmington and Goshen, Conn.;

  vii. Jerusha4, b. 19 Nov. 1713. (It is possible that
       the name was Joshua, instead of Jerusha.)

   Abraham3 Merrill made his will 11 Dec. 1735, and it was proved 1 Dec 1747. To his son Abraham he gave all his housing and land in Hartford and all his land in Farmington. To his son Joseph he gave all his land and other property in New Hatford, and £50. To his daughters Prudence, Abigail, Margarett, Jerusha and Joanna he gave £110 each. He made Abraham executor and residuary ligatee.                    S.M.

   "The Merrills were prominent among the first settlers of West Hartford. I find by the records of the church of that place that sixty-four of the name have belonged to that church - more than any other name." - (Barbour, "My Wife and my Mother." [Hartford, 1864], page 20 of the genealogical section.) Abraham3 Merrill and his wife were among the twenty-nine original members of the church, in 1713. In 1884 the membership of the church included no Merrills.
