   John3 MERRILL (Abraham2) was born 15 Oct. 1673, in Newbury, Mass., and lived on the old homestead of his father, near the mouth of Artichoke River. He was a farmer and boatman on the Merrimack River. He was one of the founders of the Episcopal Church in Newbury (see pp. 63, 87-89), and one of the wardens of the church in 1714. He made his will 3 Nov. 1749, and it was proved 3 May, 1756. It is probable that he died in 1756. He married (1) (published 10 Aug. 1708, in Newbury), Deborah Hazeltine (see next page), daughter of Nathaniel Hazeltine of Haverhill, Mass. She died 21 Jan. 1727/8, in Newbury. He married (2) in April, 1729, in Newbury, Margaret Lowell, who survived him. Children, born in Newbury:

       (1) Christopher Annis, son of Joseph and
   Dorothy Annis of Newbury; he was b. in Aug.
   1704; she m. (2) 28 Oct. 1756, Samuel Davis;
   lived in Newbury. Children:
      Ruth, b. 12 July, 1733; d. 12 Aug. 1736,         (Annis)
      Mary, b. 24 Nov. 1735; was living in 1771;
         prob. never married.
      Ruth, b. 8 Oct. 1738; m. 25 Nov. 1760, Samuel
         Emery.
      Dorothy, b. 11 Apr. 1742; d. young.
      Dorothy, b. 31 Mar. 1744; m. 12 July, 1768,
         Nathan Ordway.
 
  iii.     Abigail4, b. 14 Sept. 1712; was living in 1749;
       m. 6 Mar. 1733/4, in Newbury, Joseph Downer of
   Newbury; lived in Newbury. Child:
      Andrew, b. 7 Jan. 1734/5.                         (Downer)
 
  iv. Elizabeth4, b. 4 May, 1714; d. 2 Nov. 1728.
 
  v. Deliverance4, b. 18 Mar. 1715/16; d. 18 Jan. 1759;
       m. 15 May, 1739, in Newbury, Thomas Williams, (*)
   son of Thomas and Mary (Lowell) Williams of
   Newbury; he was b. 24 June, 1710; lived in
      Hampstead, N.H. Children: (Williams)

* According to Hoyt's "Old Families of Salisbury and Amesbury" he was son of Richard and Ruth (Rogers) Williams, and was b. 9 Aug. 1709.

** Deborah Hazeltine was born 20 Feb. 1684-5, the daughter of Nathaniel and Deliverance (Robie) Hazeltine. Deliverence Robie was of Hampton, N.H. (See previous page.)
